PRESS RELEASE: Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder After Allegedly Running Over Victim with Vehicle in Rural Wamego

Pottawatomie County, Kansas — June 22, 2025 — A disturbing act of violence has shaken the rural community of Wamego after a woman was intentionally run over by a vehicle following a heated confrontation. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the suspect, 43-year-old Dana Blume of Onaga, Kansas, is now in custody and facing serious criminal charges.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight, at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, in the 20000 block of Pauling Run Road, a remote area just outside Wamego. According to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting that a woman had been run over by a vehicle at the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies immediately responded and located the victim, who was later identified as 52-year-old Kara Murray, a resident of Wamego. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found Murray suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Further investigation at the scene led authorities to determine that the act had not been accidental. Preliminary findings indicate that Dana Blume had intentionally driven her vehicle into the victim following a dispute between the two women. The nature of the argument remains under investigation, though authorities have confirmed it escalated rapidly and ended in violence.

Medical responders stabilized the victim at the scene before she was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby trauma center for emergency care. As of the latest update, Murray remains hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for her injuries.

Dana Blume was taken into custody at the scene without incident. She was transported to the Pottawatomie County Jail, where she is currently being held on charges of Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree. Blume is awaiting her bond hearing as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

In their official release, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives are working diligently to piece together the timeline of events and determine any contributing factors that led to the violent confrontation.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward. Individuals may contact Detective Young at 785-457-3353, or submit tips anonymously via the Crime Stoppers link at www.ptsheriff.com.

The Sheriff’s Office also thanked the first responders, EMS personnel, and supporting agencies for their quick action and professional coordination during the emergency.

While no further details about the relationship between Blume and Murray have been released at this time, the community is expressing deep concern over the shocking nature of the incident.

“This was a targeted act of violence, not a random occurrence,” said a representative from the Sheriff’s Office. “We want to assure residents that this was an isolated event, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure justice is served for the victim and her family.”

As the investigation develops, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office plans to release additional updates. In the meantime, the community of Wamego is left grappling with the consequences of a violent altercation that has left one woman critically injured and another behind bars.

Anyone with knowledge of the incident is strongly encouraged to contact law enforcement. Your information could be critical to helping detectives complete a full and fair investigation.
