Marshall County Mourns the Loss of Beloved Local Donald “Bass Bud” Cole Following Tragic Shooting

MARSHALL COUNTY, OK — The tight-knit community of Marshall County is reeling from the devastating news of the tragic death of Donald Cole, lovingly known to nearly everyone in the area as “Bass Bud.” A beloved figure, Cole was shot and killed Saturday night near Buncombe Creek on Texoma Christian Camp Road. His death has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Authorities have since confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the case. Christopher Lee Bridenthal and Randi Ann Rud, who were reportedly residing in a home near where the shooting occurred, are currently in custody. According to legal documents obtained by News 12, Bridenthal has been charged with a felony weapons offense, while Rud faces a felony conspiracy charge. Both suspects are being held without bond as the investigation continues.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is leading the inquiry into what led up to the shooting. While the agency has not yet released further details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding Cole’s death, they stated that additional charges could be forthcoming, pending a decision by the district attorney.

In the wake of this senseless tragedy, the outpouring of love and grief from the community has been palpable. For many, Donald Cole was far more than just a familiar face—he was a friend, a protector, and a beacon of joy in everyday life. Known for his ever-present smile and warm heart, “Bass Bud” had a special way of brightening the lives of everyone he met.

“If you knew him, you knew him—and I don’t think there was a person in this county that didn’t know him,” said Tonya Wescott, a close friend of Cole’s and a staff member at Willie’s in Kingston. “He always had a smile. You couldn’t have a bad day around ‘Bud’ because he was gonna make you smile.”

Cole was a familiar and welcome presence at Willie’s “Rattlin’ the Pans”, where he was known for his humor, kindness, and care for others. One server, April Stephens, shared a heartfelt memory that echoed the sentiments of many who knew him. “Nightside leaving the bar, and I didn’t feel comfortable leaving, he would always walk me to my vehicle to make sure I was safe. Always.”

Such small but powerful acts of compassion defined who “Bass Bud” was. He wasn’t just a patron or a friend—he was family to many in the community. His death has not only shaken the residents of Marshall County but has left a deep emotional scar on the hearts of those who considered him a part of their daily lives.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday for both Bridenthal and Rud. As the legal proceedings move forward, the community continues to demand justice for Bud while remembering the joy he brought to so many.

In a world too often defined by tragedy and violence, “Bass Bud” was a rare soul—a man who led with kindness, generosity, and a contagious smile. As Marshall County mourns his passing, they also celebrate a life that, while cut short, made a lasting impact on every life it touched.

The investigation remains ongoing. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available. For now, the memory of Donald “Bass Bud” Cole lives on—in the laughter he sparked, the friends he cherished, and the community he loved.
