It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Daniel “Dink” Daffin, a cherished member of the St. Michaels Fire Department, who faithfully and selflessly served his community for over 50 years. Dink passed away leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and a lifetime of service that will never be forgotten.
Dink was far more than just a firefighter. He was a pillar of the department — a mentor, a leader, a friend, and a constant presence whose commitment set a shining example for generations. His extensive service record includes holding respected leadership roles such as Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, Boat Captain, and a valued member of the Board of Trustees. Through every title and task, Dink brought honor, humility, and heart.
From meticulously maintaining the engines to guiding and mentoring young recruits, Dink embodied what it truly meant to serve. He answered every call without hesitation, supported his fellow firefighters with compassion, and gave his all to the department he loved so dearly. His presence at the firehouse was a constant comfort, his knowledge and experience an invaluable resource, and his smile a welcome sight in times of both urgency and peace.
Those who knew Dink will remember a man who never sought the spotlight, yet always led by example. He was the kind of person who made things better — for his team, his neighbors, and his entire community. His deep love for service was only matched by the love he had for those around him.
As we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life Dink lived and the countless lives he touched. His legacy will forever live on in the traditions, values, and spirit of the St. Michaels Fire Department.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Dink will be held on Sunday, July 20th at 2:00 PM at the Tilghman Island Volunteer Fire Department. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and pay tribute to his extraordinary life.
To Dink’s family, friends, and firehouse brothers and sisters — we extend our deepest sympathies. Your loss is shared by an entire community that stands with you in gratitude and grief.
Rest easy, Dink. Your duty is done. We’ll take it from here. 🚒❤️
