EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A double homicide is under investigation after a violent incident Thursday night on Highway 85, prompting a large law enforcement response and an ongoing manhunt for a person of interest.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), the call came in around 10:40 p.m. on June 3, reporting a robbery in progress near Highway 85, between Main Street and Academy Boulevard. Deputies from EPSO and officers from the Fountain Police Department (FPD) responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered two individuals deceased at the location. Their identities have not been released pending notification of next of kin. EPSO has not shared further details about the circumstances of the robbery or how the shooting unfolded.
Search for Person of Interest
Authorities have named 23-year-old Eddie La Charles Jackson as a person of interest in connection to the fatal incident. EPSO is urging the public to be vigilant and to report any information about Jackson’s whereabouts immediately by calling (719) 390-5555. Law enforcement has not confirmed whether Jackson is armed or considered dangerous, but the severity of the crime has raised public concern.
Road Closures and Additional Incident
As the investigation continues, Highway 85 remains closed and is expected to stay shut down until at least noon on Friday. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area while the scene is processed.
In a separate but related incident, a patrol vehicle that was actively blocking traffic near the crime scene was struck by a suspected drunk driver. A deputy was inside the vehicle at the time, though no injuries have been reported. The Colorado State Patrol is handling the DUI investigation.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the Fountain Police Department and Colorado State Patrol, continues to actively investigate the crime scene and track down leads. Authorities have not released a motive or further details about the victims or how they were connected to the alleged robbery.
