LEWISVILLE, TX – A 43-year-old woman was fatally shot by Lewisville police officers early Thursday morning, July 24, 2025, following a high-speed chase and an armed standoff in a commercial parking lot, according to the Lewisville Police Department. The woman, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Joanna Rebecca Rogers of Carrollton, died at Medical City Lewisville shortly after 1 a.m.
The incident began just after midnight on State Highway 121 in Lewisville, when an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Rogers, who was suspected of having an outstanding felony warrant issued by another agency. During the stop, the officer confirmed Rogers’ identity and was awaiting verification of the warrant when she abruptly fled the scene at high speed, with no other passengers in the vehicle.
A pursuit ensued, spanning multiple North Texas jurisdictions. During the chase, Rogers collided with a Lewisville Police Department patrol vehicle, causing damage but no injuries to the officer involved. The pursuit ended in a commercial parking lot in the 2200 block of the southbound Interstate 35E service road, where Rogers’ vehicle stopped due to damage sustained during the chase.
As officers attempted to arrest her, Rogers exited the vehicle and brandished a handgun, ignoring multiple commands to drop the weapon. Lewisville police officers opened fire, striking Rogers. Officers immediately performed lifesaving measures until the Lewisville Fire Department arrived. Rogers was transported to Medical City Lewisville, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 1:16 a.m.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident. A handgun was recovered from Rogers’ vehicle, according to police reports. The nature of the felony warrant has not been disclosed, though police records indicate Rogers had a history of low-level arrests for theft and drug possession.
