On August 1, Giovanni left Englewood, Florida, around 1:30 a.m. with three cousins—relatives he had only interacted with via FaceTime and text. They were headed to Brevard County. Just 25 minutes into the trip, Giovanni began acting erratically, according to the cousins, and exited the vehicle near Interstate 75 and State Road 70 in Manatee County. His phone and backpack were later found in that area.

On August 8, a relative spotted a partially submerged body in a retention pond near the same location where Giovanni’s belongings had been found. An autopsy conducted by the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office revealed no signs of trauma or foul play. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, forensic testing and toxicology reports are still pending. These results may take months to complete.
