A routine Friday evening at a local 7-Eleven turned into a scene of unimaginable horror, leaving a community in shock and investigators searching for answers to a senseless act of violence. The terrible incident unfolded in the fading light of the afternoon, around 5:30 p.m. on October 17th, at the convenience store located in the 6200 block of Highway 99. It’s a familiar stop for many in Vancouver, but on this day, it became the epicenter of a tragedy that would leave two men dead and a neighborhood reeling.
When deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, they were met with a grim discovery. Inside the store, where customers should have been grabbing snacks or heading home for the weekend, they found two men, both deceased. The store, usually a place of quick convenience, had become a sealed crime scene, silent and still.

Authorities later identified the victim as 37-year-old Pardeep Kumar. A man in the prime of his life, his death has left a void that authorities are struggling to explain. The other man, identified as the suspect, was 26-year-old Ryan Taylor.
The findings from the medical examiner’s report confirmed the dark sequence of events that investigators had suspected. The report listed Pardeep Kumar’s cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head. Ryan Taylor’s cause of death was also a gunshot wound to the head, determined to be self-inflicted. The clinical findings confirmed the horrifying reality: this was a murder-suicide.
What investigators cannot confirm, however, is the one question everyone is asking: why? Homicide investigators have been working tirelessly, yet they have not been able to release any details on a possible motive for the shooting. The “why” remains a haunting mystery, leaving a gap in the story that may never be filled.
Perhaps the most chilling detail to emerge from the investigation is the complete lack of connection between the two men. According to investigators, Kumar and Taylor had no known link. There was no shared history, no documented dispute, nothing to suggest that their paths were destined to cross in such a violent and final way.
This awful randomness is what haunts the community most.
Kumar, 37, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, his life abruptly ended by a 26-year-old man who, for reasons unknown, chose to carry out this violent act before taking his own life. The investigation continues, but for now, a neighborhood is left to mourn a man they lost and grapple with a violent mystery that struck far too close to home.
