Young mother loses her life after fight on Carrollton’s 6th Street turns into tragedy

CARROLLTON, Ga. — In the early hours of Sunday, a fight erupted along 6th Street, sending shockwaves through this normally quiet Carrollton neighborhood and leaving 26-year-old Lareon Brown dead and two others wounded. According to the Carrollton Police Department, officers were called to the scene at approximately 1:30 a.m. after reports of a confrontation that quickly escalated into gunfire.

When police arrived, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Brown, a Carrollton resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say the other two injured victims were transported to a hospital — one by ambulance to an Atlanta-area facility, the other by a private vehicle — and their conditions remain undisclosed.

As of now, investigators have confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting: 23-year-old Cyntez Worthy, 31-year-old Jamine Hutchinson and 26-year-old Zontavius Vaughn. They face charges including murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Despite the arrests, many details remain murky. Police have not released what sparked the fight, how the victims and suspects may have known each other (if at all), or whether the shooting was targeted or random. The department is still working to piece together exactly how things unfolded before shots were fired.

Neighbors say the sound of gunfire shattered the early-morning calm. One resident, who asked not to be identified, described hearing “two sets of guns going off… like they had unloaded both clips,” and recalled knowing Brown by her nickname “Ladybug.” She also said Brown had a small child only around two years old.

The community, still reeling from the loss, has responded with grief and a call for answers. Friends and family remember Brown as a young mother whose life was abruptly cut short, leaving a void that’s now being felt across the block. The Carrollton Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward — even the smallest detail might help clarify what happened and bring some sense of justice for her family.
